Forgiveness was on Credit before Jesus paid the penalty, and was on Debit afterwards.

Romans 4:1-12 (ESV):
1 What then shall we say was gained by Abraham, our forefather according to the flesh? 2 For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not before God. 3 For what does the Scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness.” 4 Now to the one who works, his wages are not counted as a gift but as his due. 5 And to the one who does not work but believes in him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is counted as righteousness, 6 just as David also speaks of the blessing of the one to whom God counts righteousness apart from works:
7 “Blessed are those whose lawless deeds are forgiven, and whose sins are covered; 8 blessed is the man against whom the Lord will not count his sin.”

Was it before or after he had been circumcised? Hebrews 2:5-18 (ESV):

Galatians 3:15-22 (ESV):

7 Therefore since only God as the “potter” had the rights of life, liberty, and property; and since Jesus transfers to all humans like Himself those rights, we don’t need a law saying by fiat “thou shalt not kill”, because all men now have the right to life; I know I violate that right if I kill a man. Thereby the law is fulfilled in right-eousness, or “the having of the rights of God”.
That’s it in a nutshell and it explains a lot of ambiguous statements Paul makes. I haven’t quoted much scripture for brevity’s sake but I find the Jesus manifold completely supported from genesis to revelation. It affirms the homoousion, it satisfies the complete taxonomy of sin(ontologic, deontic, and relational), and it satisfies all of Abelard’s criteria: 1. it’s logical 2. It’s not arbitrary if God is omniscient, therefore actions are predestined, and love demand’s it to satisfy the human cry of injustice. 3 It’s intelligible being stated capable of syllogistic treatment in plain unambiguous language. The implications to a multiverse for an omniscient God require He know everything in all possible universes, this single incarnation would then only be required in this one to satisfy it’s precise constraints, as it exists within the multiplicity of universes in God’s consciousness.
I apologize if the first part is ambiguous as to the idea of multiverse. Only in science fiction and thought experiment is a multiverse with divergent timelines considered. This universe has the timline it does because of physical constraints that cannot be changed if human life is to exist as it does(see Anthropic principle). There are approximately 20 such constraints that are so precise the universe would cease to exist as it does if they varied even one plank measure. Those multiverses actually possible would be defined by changes in those constants. Therefore there can be no other universe which would value the atonement as this one does(anthropically); however these constants do not forbid interactions at the quantum level, and may derive their stability from these interactions. In that case the incarnation in this universe has it’s meaning only in this universe but would have implications to all other possible universes.
The logical reasoning you bring up does reflect aspects of how many think about the fall of humankind into sin and even about God’s omniscience. It is true that only through belief in Jesus Christ, and by properly following by faith in character and truth as a new creation, that people are saved from bearing the punishment deserved for their sins. God is Holy, and does not sin, so God is not accountable for our sins. God only created what is good — well, very good! What is very good decided to be evil out of the choice that God provided us. Just like our all-powerful God has choices, since we are in the image of God, God provided us choices too. While many find this a difficult concept to grasp, and even find it disturbing, it is implicit in all God’s instruction to us to choose good rather than evil and to choose blessings rather than curses. It is implicit in all God’s interventions and in God’s call to all people.
Genesis 1:31 (ESV): 31 And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.
Deuteronomy 30:15 (ESV): 15 “See, I have set before you today life and good, death and evil. 16 If you obey the commandments of the Lord your God that I command you today, by loving the Lord your God, by walking in his ways, and by keeping his commandments and his statutes and his rules, then you shall live and multiply, and the Lord your God will bless you in the land that you are entering to take possession of it.
Revelation 4:8 (ESV): 8 And the four living creatures, each of them with six wings, are full of eyes all around and within, and day and night they never cease to say, “Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come!”
If that is true in the absolute how do you explain John 13

Jesus: Would you really give up your life for me? As a matter of fact I’m telling you that the rooster won’t even crow in the morning before you have denied me three times ( Now Peter is clearly predestined to deny Jesus, sin, three times! And Peter clearly does not want to, but Jesus is not interested in Peter’s free will to act or speak but that Peter clearly believe he is saved only because of what is about to happen on the cross: Proverbs 16:1 To humans belong the plans of the heart, but from the LORD comes the proper answer of the tongue. Jeremiah 10:23 LORD, I know that people’s lives are not their own; it is not for them to direct their steps. ). Don’t be upset you believe in God, believe also in me (Romans 8:29 For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. This is salvation by faith alone and participation in belief so that God gives us predestined works and a predestined confession that conform to our hearts belief.) Both Peter and Judas were predestined to do the acts that were sin, but the difference was that Judas wanted to and Peter didn’t. God is Holy because the Son was predestined to this atonement from the foundation of the world, that’s why the saints are saying that in Revelation.
This is in reference to your inquiry (in the reply chain) about Jesus explaining to Peter in John 13 that Peter would betray Jesus. People sin, even if they do not wish to sin, because of the sin that is in us, that has corrupted our character. God works with us to make us a new creation, so that we have increased freedom to choose what is good. Yet, people do still sin from time to time. God did allow Peter to be put in a situation where Peter, based upon the maturity of his Christian character at that juncture, would succumb to sin. Our character will not become fully free in Christ until after we see Jesus in the next life as Jesus really is.
Here is a useful way to look at that explanation of what Peter would do in denying Jesus. If you look at Information Technology Security (IT Security) systems, there are people who are hired with signed, legally binding contracts, to penetrate into an organization (under certain constraints) so that they will know where their weaknesses are located. Many organizations are in denial about the true condition of their security, such as their information security (IT Security). These external assessments help the firms to face the reality of their situation. Likewise, Peter was in denial about the reality of where his Christian character was, just assuming he’d do the right thing in a tough situation. God allowed Satan’s evil plans (also under certain constraints, though Satan does not like the constraints imposed by God to limit Satan’s evil) to show Peter where the security weaknesses in his character were located. Looking at the related account in Luke 22, you see that Jesus’ intent as God was to use this troubling & trying circumstance to strengthen Peter, who will in turn was to strengthen the fellow believers in Jesus. This is like a firm learning from their authorized external penetration assessment where their weaknesses are so they are then able to strengthen their security. God knew that before Jesus died and was raised from the dead as an example to follow, that the disciples would not have sufficient courage in their character, after just a few years learning from Jesus, to lay down their life for their fellow believers, as evidenced in the similar account in Mark 14 (27 And Jesus said to them, “You will all fall away, for it is written, ‘I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered.’).
John 13:36-38 (ESV): 36 Simon Peter said to him, “Lord, where are you going?” Jesus answered him, “Where I am going you cannot follow me now, but you will follow afterward.” 37 Peter said to him, “Lord, why can I not follow you now? I will lay down my life for you.” 38 Jesus answered, “Will you lay down your life for me? Truly, truly, I say to you, the rooster will not crow till you have denied me three times.
Luke 22:31-34 (ESV): 31 “Simon, Simon, behold, Satan demanded to have you, that he might sift you like wheat, 32 but I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned again, strengthen your brothers.” 33 Peter said to him, “Lord, I am ready to go with you both to prison and to death.” 34 Jesus said, “I tell you, Peter, the rooster will not crow this day, until you deny three times that you know me.”
Mark 14:26-31 (ESV): 26 And when they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives. 27 And Jesus said to them, “You will all fall away, for it is written, ‘I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered.’ 28 But after I am raised up, I will go before you to Galilee.” 29 Peter said to him, “Even though they all fall away, I will not.” 30 And Jesus said to him, “Truly, I tell you, this very night, before the rooster crows twice, you will deny me three times.” 31 But he said emphatically, “If I must die with you, I will not deny you.” And they all said the same.
I enjoyed the discourse but it only proves that Peter learned from his experience, not that it wasn’t predetermined. Four different Gospel writers give their understanding of what occurred but none of their accounts dispute what actually did occur. Suppose you have a bomb and detonate it with a random number generator, you don’t know when it will go off or who or what may be blown up; are you then not responsible for the destruction the bomb causes? God clearly knew because he ordained the lamb to be slain before the foundation of the world, then placed our free will in motion (the random detonator) which blew up into sinful acts. You don’t even avoid responsibility with free will controlling your actions If we had free control of our acts it would not change the responsible party. However we don’t have free control over our acts precisely because God intends that we see the necessity of believing in the redeemer. That proves His love in the cross, if we had free control of our acts we would believe in ourselves as the means to heaven, that we earned it, it is because our acts are predestined and our will is free to believe that the cross is a gift not based on what I did but what God did all the way around. That is why John said in his epistle that love is not what we had for Him but what He first had for us.
As to whether Peter’s experience was predetermined, the scriptures foretold that all the sheep would be scattered, so this was predetermined, of which you agree since it is clear from scriptures. Peter’s specific experience with the rooster crowing three times was shared by Jesus near the time when it was to occur, so this was also predicted, yet we only know for certain its’ prediction was when Jesus revealed it. People often assume predictions/prophesies/predeterminations flow from a pre-determined sequence of events. This assumption is unwarranted. Consider rather that eternal predestination can originate from other forces like faith & character. With that perspective, recommend revisit the scriptures pertaining to predestination and God’s promises. It is recognized in scripture that faith leads to character, and people recognize that when a character is sown, a destiny is reaped. Those who seek Jesus & his righteousness with all their being reap faith, and by the promises of God, with an enduring faith, reap eternal life. It has been predetermined by God that those with a true & lasting faith that is rooted in love in Jesus Christ will inherit the blessings & kingdom that God prepared for them from the foundation of the world. The faith in God existed in a non-fallen world as Adam & Eve trusted God before rebelling in sin. The faith & trust in God existed in the fallen world when many looked forward to the Savior coming. The faith in Jesus with support from the Holy Spirit persists in our fallen world after the resurrection of Jesus witnessed God’s power and Jesus’ innocence as a payment for our sins. You are concerned a free will means people will credit themselves with righteousness. If people are careful to witness to their own free will properly, like the Apostle Paul observed in Romans 7, it is rather observed that our own free will has been enslaved in the sinful flesh, which leads to doing wrong despite knowing what is right.
Galatians 6:8 (ESV): 8 For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.
Romans 7:21-25 (ESV): 21 So I find it to be a law that when I want to do right, evil lies close at hand. 22 For I delight in the law of God, in my inner being, 23 but I see in my members another law waging war against the law of my mind and making me captive to the law of sin that dwells in my members. 24 Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? 25 Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself serve the law of God with my mind, but with my flesh I serve the law of sin.

It’s not clear that what you are saying is different than what I said, what are telling me to reconsider? If your agreeing that’s great too!
