It is wise to consult many advisors to determine the best paths forward at critical junctures, yet unless your heart and mind follow God, God reserves the option to rather have you pick the best sounding path. So, seek righteousness first, following Jesus, and then pray that God will help you pick the best paths, gaining insights from your many advisors recommendations.

2 Samuel 17:14

14 And Absalom and all the men of Israel said, “The counsel of Hushai the Archite is better than the counsel of Ahithophel.” For the Lord had ordained to defeat the good counsel of Ahithophel, so that the Lord might bring harm upon Absalom.

God instructs us to seek first his kingdom and righteousness, a righteousness rooted in a faith filled life.

Romans 9:30-33

30 What shall we say, then? That Gentiles who did not pursue righteousness have attained it, that is, a righteousness that is by faith; 31 but that Israel who pursued a law that would lead to righteousness did not succeed in reaching that law. 32 Why? Because they did not pursue it by faith, but as if it were based on works. They have stumbled over the stumbling stone, 33 as it is written,

“Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offense;
and whoever believes in him will not be put to shame.”

Can a believer fall away? Yes. Can anyone make a believer fall away? No. What’s the believers first responsibility? Seek God’s righteousness and kingdom first. How intently? Enough to dig deep roots.

Luke 8:13

13 And the ones on the rock are those who, when they hear the word, receive it with joy. But these have no root; they believe for a while, and in time of testing fall away.

While God delivers justice when peoples continue to willfully pick evil ways, mercy may be offered when they repent sincerely and seek righteousness the rest of their days.

Jeremiah 26:3

3 It may be they will listen, and every one turn from his evil way, that I may relent of the disaster that I intend to do to them because of their evil deeds.

When God calls, answer affirmatively, wisely using your freedom to seek righteousness and follow Jesus. Making choices to disobey, resist, and reject the Lord and do evil is unwise, like using your freedom to place yourself into a trap deadly to your soul.

Isaiah 65:12
